Watch the pope’s astonished reaction after Cristiano Ronaldo’s mother gave him the Man Utd star’s Portugal shirt
CRISTIANO RONALDO is hoping divine inspiration will end his goalscoring drought… after his mother had an audience with the Pope.
The Manchester United superstar was drawn in Tuesday’s 1-1 draw at Burnley after coming on as a substitute.
It’s been five games without scoring for the Portuguese striker, equaling his worst club streak in 11 years.
However, Ronaldo’s mother, Dolores Aveiro, hopes to improve her fortunes after meeting Pope Francis at the Vatican on Wednesday morning.
She presented the football-loving Argentine pontiff with one of her son’s replica United shirts.
Dolores posted a photo of the reunion on Instagram.
She wrote: “A very unique emotion. Thank you, Pope Francis.”
Portuguese ace Ronaldo has scored 14 goals in 25 games since joining the Red Devils from Juventus last August.

However, his dry run reflected United’s recent disappointing form.
Ralf Rangnick’s side crashed out of the FA Cup against Championship side Middlesbrough last Friday.
They then slipped out of the Premier League top four after failing to beat Burnley at Turf Moor.
Ronaldo last went five games without scoring during a stint with Real Madrid in 2011.
