Hawkeye Viewers Worried After Learning Who Owns Rolex Avengers HQ Watch
It is revealed that a group known as the Tracksuit Mafia was hired to specifically retrieve the watch from an auction it was to be sold at.
Hawkeye aka Clint Barton (Jeremy Renner) says in the episode that he belonged to someone he worked for who has now retired. He fears that if the Tracksuit Mafia identifies its owner, that person is in danger.
One scene, featured in episode four, has led viewers to theorize that Hawkeye’s former colleague is his wife, Laura (Linda Cardellini): on the phone, she switches from English to fluent German when she asks Clint about the Rolex.
Fans thought the moment hinted that Laura had previous experience in the spy world, with many believing she’s a retired SHIELD agent who is now suddenly in danger.
*Spoilers follow – you have been warned*
Well, in the Hawk Eye In the end, the watch turns out to be Laura’s. The show also goes further with the reveal – seated for Christmas dinner, she flips the watch to look at a raised engraving of the SHIELD logo. This confirms that she is the enigmatic “Agent 19”, also known as Mockingbird.
In the Marvel comics, Mockingbird is a highly trained S.H.I.E.L.D. agent who has fought on multiple Avengers teams.
The character was played by Adrianne Palicki in the ABC series Agents of SHIELD. While some fans believe Palicki’s character Bobbi Morse inherited the moniker after Laura handed her the baton, many fear the show’s version of the character doesn’t exist in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). .
However, it’s suggested that the Mockingbird reveal is an example of the MCU trying to erase Agents of SHIELD of the canon, which prompted one viewer to predict, “People aren’t going to like this one.”
Fans reacted to the plot twist on social media.
Elsewhere in the episode, the fate of Vincent D’Onofrio’s beloved villain Kingpin was left in the air.
In front of Hawk Eye finale, many speculated that a Spider-Man cameo could happen given that both characters live in New York City. Find out if Tom Holland’s web-slinger appeared on the show here.
Wednesday, December 22 also saw the release of the first trailer for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madnesswhich seemed debunk a popular theory about the marvel series Wanda Vision.
Hawk Eye is available to stream on Disney Plus, while Spider-Man: No Coming Home is currently in theaters.
