A Rolex watch with an indicative price of £35,000 will go up for auction in Halifax
The Rolex 6263 Daytona ‘Big Red’ Cosmograph was auctioned off by a former sports professional, who wishes to remain anonymous, and carries a conservative initial guide price of around £35,000.
The Daytona is arguably one of the most sought-after watches in the world and has a strong connection to the world of motor racing, given Rolex’s work with then-land speed record holder Malcolm Campbell. in the production of a technically sound watch, which in the end proved a key part of the icon’s successful record attempts at Daytona Beach in the 1930s.
This watch model also has some notoriety in the celebrity world, as Oscar-winning actor Paul Newman has been the ambassador for the Daytona Big Red, ever since he was offered one in the late 1960s.
Auctioneer and principal owner, James Watson, said: “It is such an incredible and iconic piece that has come through our doors and to say I am proud to have it with us for sale could not be more of an understatement. I’m sure there will be a frenetic bidding and we hope for a record result for us.”
The Halifax Mill Auctioneers sale begins at noon on Sunday April 3 and offers online auctions as well as room and telephone auctions at their central Halifax location near Kings Cross Road.
